Edwards releases budget proposal without taxes, only cuts

Edwards' chief financial adviser Jay Dardenne unveiled Saturday what next year's budget looks like if Louisiana cuts more than $2 billion in state financing to close a budget gap, rather than raise taxes. (AP) — Police say a man accused of assaulting a woman with a shotgun and robbing her after she refused to pay him money back has been arrested. Police Detective Kevin Jackson says she refused to return the money and Wright struck her in the face, head and body with a shotgun at least four times.

(AP) — A funeral home director says a former legislator who served as a state representative in Alabama for more than three decades has died. Doug Seale of the Ward-Wilson Funeral Home says longtime state Rep. Joe Carothers died Friday evening at the Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.
