Former Vt. Gov. Douglas hits deer on interstate

COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) — Former Vermont Gov. James Douglas and his wife, Dorothy, escaped injury when their car hit a deer on Interstate 89 in Colchester. Vermont State Police say the 62-year-old Douglas of Middlebury was driving north on the Interstate on Saturday shortly before 6 p.m. when he reported hitting the animal. Douglas' Chrysler 200 had to be towed from the scene. State police say the deer could not be found. Douglas was first elected governor in 2002; he left office in January 2011.
