Shanghai stocks slip on earthquake; insurers drop

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Mainland China stocks fell early Monday, the first session of trade since a deadly magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit the Sichuan province of China over the weekend. The Shanghai Composite fell 0.1% to 2,241.71 in the opening minutes, with shares of China Life Insurance Co. among the biggest decliners as they fell 2.5%, and Ping An Insurance lost 1.1%. Market heavyweight HSBC Holdings Plc. declined 0.3%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index , meanwhile, clung to a slight rise of 0.1% at 22,028.98, with a mixed performance among property issues while insurers mostly lower. ... Read More
